Year 5 Autumn 2025

Autumn 1 - The 'Unsinkable' ship

This half term our topic is 'The Unsinkable Ship.' We will explore the events of the Titanic, look at where it was constructed, what its planned route was, explore what life was like on board and look at the different theories about who was to blame. As part of our English we will write poems based on the Titanic, write newspaper reports about the events and also write a discussion text about whether we would choose a cruise for our next holiday.

Why Are Sacred Texts/Holy Books So Important to People of Faith?

We have been learning about why Holy Books are so important to people of faith. We learned that Muslims try to learn the words of the Quran. We had a go at trying to learn a few sentences by heart. It was tricky!

Titanic newspaper writing

Where did our teacher disappear to?

For their independent write, the children wrote a newspaper article on the disappearance of Mrs Pendergast. The children returned from lunch and she had gone! All that was left was her shoes! The door was open and her coat was found on the floor and on whiteboards were the words 'ABRACADABRA!' and 'Ziggety, zaggety zooooo!'
