Welcome to Year 2
A very warm welcome to our Year 2 Class page. I am Mrs Clitheroe, and I have the great privilege of teaching Year 2 this year. Mrs Thomson will work alongside me within class each day, and on a Wednesday, Mr Ferguson will teach P.E and Mrs Atkins will teach R.E.
Within our welcome booklet, you will find lots of useful information about routines and expectations. Please visit our class page on a regular basis for updates. There is a new section on the class page area of the school website that will contain photographs of our learning - we will have a very busy time over the year and it will provide a snapshot of what is happening in school.
Homework
Children should complete the homework booklet with a selection of tasks given out at the beginning of each half term. All tasks should be completed over the half term and returned back on the last week before the half term ends. The tasks are broken down weekly, so it works best to follow this process, Please encourage your child to complete using pencil and to work as indepedently as posisble.
We will cover spelling lessons that will firstly revise previous phonic knowledge and then spelling rules later in the Autumn term. We may introudce a spelling check as the year progresses.

Home reading
In Year 2, we read on a regular basis through guided reading sessions, whole class shared read and we also use our book corner. We also have a class story time at the end of every day. Reading is really important to us and can support the children in so many other areas of learning. It is vital that children keep this reading going in their own time, to help them develop even further. Please encourage your child to read a few pages each night.
Reading books are changed every Monday and Thursday.
PE. is on a Tuesday and Wednesday for the first Autumn term. Please make sure that your child has their ear rings removed and that they have a full PE kit in school.
PE kit consists of :
- White T-shirt
- Black shorts
- Pumps
Please make sure your child's name is in all of their uniform, PE kit and coat and shoes as they can easily get mixed up.
Water Bottles:
Your child will need to bring a plastic bottle filled with fresh water each day as our class often gets quite warm.
Fruit:
Fruit is provided for every child in Key Stage One to enjoy each day.
Lunch Time Prayer
For every cup and plateful,
Lord make us truly grateful,
Amen.
End of Day Prayer
At the end of the day we stop and say,
Thank you for our beautiful day.
We have worked hard and tried our best,
Please God help us sleep and rest.
Amen
