Spirituality
Spirituality is hard to define as it can be a very personal experience. However, at St Peter and Paul's we believe spirituality involves:
Understanding of self
- Having an awareness of our feelings
- Being able to reflect
- Expressing ourselves in different ways
- Understanding that we are all unique
- Being happy with who we are
- Showing gratitude for what we have and who we are
- Exploring our personal faith
- Developing our imagination and creativity
Relationships
- Showing empathy and understanding towards others
- Showing respect
- Being 'Rooted and Grounded in Love' in all that we do
- Trying to make a difference
Beyond ourselves
- Encountering God
- Having a sense of what lies beyond the physical
- Asking big questions
- Exploring big questions
- Opportunities for prayer
- Making sense of the world
Awe and wonder
- Developing a sense of awe and wonder
- Enjoying the miracles of everyday life
- Taking time for what really matters
- Appreciating the beauty of the world, nature, art and music
At St Peter and St Paul's, Spiritual Development is nurtured throughout the curriculum and beyond. We believe it is important to develop positive relationships using our Christian vision and values alongside the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes. We have developed spiritual pathways that we use to plan experiences to help our children develop spiritually:
The Path of Simplicity - This path involves being alone, being still, being quiet, giving something up.
The Path of Caregiving - This path is all about us loving God and others.
The Path of Celebration - This path is all about us celebrating God and life through shouting, singing, drama and celebrations.
The Path of Tradition - This path is all about us using pattern, structure, being disciplined, having rituals and using symbols.
The Path of Courage - This path is us about standing up for what is right and fair, it is about having a voice and having courage.
The Path of Mindfulness - This path is about us using our wonderful minds to explore big questions, reflecting, debating and connecting to the world around us.
The Path of Nature - This path is about enjoying God's creation and the outdoors.
The Path of Senses - This path is all about us using our five senses.
The Path of Thinking - This path is all about us spending time with poetry, music, praying and enjoying mindfulness activities such as colouring, yoga or grounding activities.
