Year 5 - Mrs Pendergast

Welcome Booklet 2023

Welcome to Year 5!

Hello, I am Mrs Pendergast and I am delighted to be the Year 5 teacher, here, at St Peter and Paul's Primary School.

If you explore this page, you will find lots of photographs and information based on what we have been up to as well as important day-to-day information.

If there is ever anything you would like to ask, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Reading in School:

Reading will take place daily. This will be in the form of a reading workshop whereby groups of children complete a range of activities which focus on developing their comprehension, vocabulary, grammatical understanding and love for reading. Children will also have regular opportunities to read aloud in English lessons and will listen to the class novel at some point each day.

Home reading is very important please encourage your child to read a few pages of their home reading book each night. Reading books are brought into school every Monday and Friday to be changed.

Homework:

Homework tasks are to be completed either on the sheets provided. Every monday, the children will receive an English and Maths task to be returned to school the following Monday.

Spellings:

At the start of each half term the children will receive a spelling investigation sheet which details the spelling focus for each week with a short task to complete.

PE:

This currently takes place on a Friday (with Daily mile each afternoon). We ask that your child has their PE kit in school and if they typically wear earrings, they are removed prior to attending school that day.

PE kit consists of:

  • White T-shirt

  • Black Shorts

  • Pumps

Uniform:

Please ensure all uniform and PE kit is labelled, as it is very easy to misplace it when moving around class and around school.

Water Bottles:

Your child will need to bring a re-usable bottle with their name written on, filled with fresh water each day as our classroom often gets quite warm.
