Welcome to Year 2 Information
Welcome to Year 2
A warm welcome from Mrs Clitheroe, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Astbury, who are all based in Year 2 each day. We are also lucky enough to have Mr Ferguson teach us PE and Mrs Morrison teach RE. Year 2 ends the Key Stage 1 journey in a positive and enjoyable way, where we enjoy lots of different ways of learning. Please see our class photo gallery for snippets of what goes on in Year 2.
School Holiday Dates 2026-2027
Homework
Children should complete the homework booklet with a selection of tasks given out at the beginning of each half term.
All tasks should be completed over the half term and returned to school on the last week before the half term ends. The tasks are broken down weekly, so it works best to follow this process, Please encourage your child to complete using pencil and to work as independently as possible.
Homework tasks incorporate English and maths tasks that could range from phonics, handwriting, number bonds and times tables.

Home reading
In Year 2, we read on a regular basis through guided reading sessions, whole class shared read, and we also use our wonderful book corner. We also have a class story time at the end of every day and have access to a wonderful KS1 library. Reading is really important to us and can support the children in so many other areas of learning. It is vital that children keep this reading going in their own time, to help them develop even further. Please encourage your child to read each week to assist them with confidence and fluency.
Reading books are changed every Monday and Thursday.
Children are encouraged to read at least twice a week with notes made in reading records.
PE days
Our PE days are Tuesday with Mr Ferguson and on Friday with Mrs Clitheroe for the first Autumn term.
Please make sure that your child has their ear rings removed and that they have a full PE kit in school and that all items are clearly labelled.
PE kit consists of :
- White T-shirt
- Black shorts
- Pumps
Please see our uniform policy for any further guidance.
Wellies and waterproofs
It would be beneficial to have a set within school due to any outdoor learning opportunities.
Water bottle
Please ensure that a water bottle is sent to school each day as children have the opportunity to re-fill at our water dispenser.
Fruit
Fruit is provided for every child in Key Stage One to enjoy each day.
Lunch Time Prayer
For every cup and plateful,
Lord make us truly grateful,
Amen.
End of Day Prayer
At the end of the day we stop and say,
Thank you for our beautiful day.
We have worked hard and tried our best,
Please God help us sleep and rest.
Amen
