Year 5 - Mrs Chandler

Welcome to Year 5!

Hello, I am Miss Bottomley and I am delighted to be the Year 5 teacher, here, at St Peter and

St Paul's Primary School. If you explore this page, you will find lots of photographs and information based on what we have been up to as well as important day-to-day information.

If there is ever anything you would like to ask, please do not hesitate to contact me via email. I am very much looking forward to another enjoyable and successful year at St Peters and St Paul’s Primary School.

Reading in School:

Reading will take place daily. This will be in the form of guided reading whereby the children will complete a range of activities which focus on developing their comprehension, vocabulary, grammatical understanding and love for reading. Children will also have regular opportunities to read aloud in Literacy lessons and will listen to the class novel at some point each day.

Home reading is very important please encourage your child to read a few pages of their home reading book each night. Reading books are brought into school every Friday and returned the following Monday in accordance with COVID-19 isolation measures.

Homework:

Homework tasks are to be completed either on the sheet provided or in each child’s homework book. Every Tuesday, the children will receive a Maths, Grammar and comprehension task based on what we have been covering in class the previous week.

Spellings:

Spelling investigation activities are to also be completed in the homework book and these can be found on the spelling investigation sheet which is given out at the start of every half term. High frequency words are tested weekly (every Friday) in accordance with our NEW spelling scheme. Each child has a copy of their own spelling words based on the level which they are currently working on in their spelling bee booklet.

PE:

This currently takes place on either a Wednesday or Thursday. We ask that your child has their PE kit in school and if they typically wear earrings, they are removed prior to attending school that day.

PE kit consists of:

  • White T-shirt

  • Black Shorts

  • Pumps

Uniform:

Please ensure all uniform and PE kit is labelled, as it is very easy to misplace it when moving around class and around school.

Water Bottles:

Your child will need to bring a re-usable bottle with their name written on, filled with fresh water each day as our classroom often gets quite warm.

Year 5 Christmas Wishes

This year has been extremely challenging in many ways for all of us and therefore we wanted to make Christmas as special as possible for all of our families. Each child has created their own Christmas wish and, in the video, below they share them with you. On the last day of term, each child will take their wish home and it can then hang on their Christmas tree. We hope that all your Christmas wishes will come true! <3
